The four participating institutions in the Fred Hutchinson/University of Washington Cancer Consortium have a history of collaboration across the disciplines of basic, clinical and public health sciences.
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center
Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center, formed in 1973, is one of the world's leading cancer research centers. Home of three Nobel laureates, the Hutchinson Center is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical technology to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases.
Hutchinson scientists address basic science, early detection, treatment and cures, and cancer survivorship. The Center pioneered bone marrow transplantation for the treatment of blood cancers and is home to the nation’s first and largest cancer prevention program.
University of Washington
Consortium members based at the University of Washington have primary faculty appointments in the University of Washington School of Medicine and the School of Public Health.
The University of Washington School of Medicine is a top-ranked scientific research institution and a leader in the training of physicians.
The UW School of Public Health trains Master’s and PhD students in the art and science of public health.
Seattle Children's Hospital and Research Institute offer a full range of care for cancer and blood disorders. In 2012, U.S. News & World Report ranked Children's Cancer Center 7th best in the country.
Children’s is internationally recognized for advancing discoveries in cancer, genetics, immunology, pathology, infectious disease, injury prevention and bioethics. Children’s also serves as the primary clinical, research and teaching site for the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Seattle Cancer Care Alliance
The Seattle Cancer Care Alliance is a nationally designated, prospective payment system (PPS)-exempt outpatient cancer facility formed in 1998 by the Hutchinson Center, University of Washington, and Children’s Hospital. The SCCA provides an optimal environment for clinical treatment and research by bringing the leading clinical research physician/scientists of the three outstanding partner institutions together in a single cancer care delivery system.
There are six SCCA clinic locations in Greater Seattle, as well as Network sites in Montana, Alaska, and throughout Washington State.
